The Science of the Beverage

This recipe is a masterclass in metabolic chemistry disguised as a chocolate treat.

Avocado delivers monounsaturated fats that improve insulin sensitivity and reduce systemic inflammation through modulation of adiponectin, an anti-inflammatory hormone (Nutrients. 2019;11(7):1623). Its fibre also slows carbohydrate absorption, stabilising blood glucose (J Clin Med. 2020;9(5):1331).

Cocoa powder is rich in flavanols, particularly epicatechin, which enhances endothelial function and nitric oxide bioavailability, improving circulation while reducing oxidative stress (Front Nutr. 2021;8:662423).

Almond butter provides vitamin E and magnesium, both of which support muscle and nerve function while regulating blood sugar levels. Magnesium intake is inversely associated with type 2 diabetes risk (Diabetes Care. 2011;34(9):2116–2122).

Cinnamon contains cinnamaldehyde and polyphenols that mimic insulin activity, enhancing glucose uptake in muscle cells (J Diabetes Res. 2015;2015:913651).

Vanilla extract not only rounds out the flavour but contributes antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties through its phenolic compounds (J Agric Food Chem. 2018;66(21):5359–5366).

Together, these ingredients create a decadent shake that satisfies dessert cravings while keeping glucose low, ketones high, and your metabolism happily humming in fat-burning mode.
